The short answer
To join the public UnstableSMP Minecraft server, add play.unstablesmp.gg to your server list. Java players can enter the hostname directly. Bedrock players use the same hostname but should confirm the current Bedrock port in the official UnstableSMP Discord server before connecting.
Enter only the hostname. Do not add https://, www, spaces, or a web page path. If you searched for the UnstableSMP IP, this hostname is the correct value to paste into Minecraft.
Before you start
- Use an official Minecraft account with multiplayer access enabled.
- Update to the server's currently supported Minecraft version.
- Copy play.unstablesmp.gg exactly.
- Check the live server status before troubleshooting your device.
- Read the UnstableSMP rules before leaving spawn.
Join UnstableSMP on Java Edition
- Start Minecraft: Java Edition and choose Multiplayer.
- Select Add Server. Name the entry “UnstableSMP” so it is easy to recognize.
- Paste play.unstablesmp.gg into the Server Address field.
- Select Done, choose UnstableSMP from the list, and press Join Server.
The server brief currently targets Java 1.21 or newer, but Minecraft updates can change compatibility. The Java Edition guide explains version selection and Java-specific errors in more detail.
Join UnstableSMP on Bedrock Edition
- Open Minecraft: Bedrock Edition, select Play, and open the Servers tab.
- Choose Add Server on a device that allows custom server entries.
- Use “UnstableSMP” as the name and play.unstablesmp.gg as the address.
- Enter the currently confirmed Bedrock port, save the entry, and connect.
Port 19132 is the commonly advertised Bedrock value, but cross-play settings can change during Minecraft updates. Confirm it in Discord rather than assuming an old screenshot is current. Some consoles do not provide a normal custom-server button. See the Bedrock Edition guide for device limitations and safe next steps.
If UnstableSMP will not connect
Start with the live status. If the public server reports offline, wait for an announcement instead of repeatedly changing your router or firewall. If it reports online, check the hostname, edition, version, Bedrock port, and the exact wording of the Minecraft error.
Use the UnstableSMP connection troubleshooting guide to match “Unknown host,” “Outdated client,” timeouts, authentication errors, and Bedrock connection failures to a focused fix.
What to do after your first login
Read the welcome instructions and rules before moving far from spawn. Collect basic food and tools, learn how land protection works, and avoid placing a permanent base until you understand local claim boundaries. The first-night guide gives you a practical opening route, while the land-claims guide helps protect a larger build.
Public server access and creator events
This guide covers the public survival server at play.unstablesmp.gg. Recorded creator scenarios, private story worlds, and limited events can use separate access rules. A public-server connection does not automatically grant access to every creator recording or special event. Use official announcements for event-specific instructions.
